Golden Brown Sugar Meringues

I love Meringues. The sugary goodness that melts in your mouth…
Not only are meringues light and delicious, they’re also very easy to make and you can customize them to whatever flavor or color that tickles your fancy. The standard meringue requires egg whites and sugar. You could add any flavored extract to create a desired taste or food coloring for some colorful treats.
I decided to substitute regular sugar for brown sugar and to use vanilla extract. This gives the meringues a rich, sweet flavor and a nice light golden brown color. Let’s get started!
Chocolate!
What you’ll need (this will create about 2 dozen meringues):
• 3 Egg Whites
• 1/2 Cup of Golden Brown Sugar
• 1/2 Tsp. of Vanilla Extract
• A pinch of salt

Preheat your oven to 225F and line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine the egg whites with the salt. Use an electric mixer on high speed until your egg whites start to form soft peaks.
While still mixing, slowly add the brown sugar to the egg whites. Continue to blend on high speed for another 4-5 minutes, until mixture is shiny and stiff.
Mixing
Toss in the vanilla extract and give the mixture a quick mix to blend everything together.
Add Vanilla
Now, it’s time to set the meringues onto the cookie sheets. You can go about this a couple ways, use a large spoon and put a dollop per meringue, place the mixture into a plastic bag and cut the end to create the meringue shape or use a “dessert decorator.” What I did.
Plop!
Place the cookie sheets into the oven and bake for about 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Baking nicely
Once the time is up, turn off the oven and leave it ajar. Allow the meringues to cool for about an hour.
You could leave the meringues as they are or drizzle some chocolate on them!

Be sure to store the meringues in an airtight container, otherwise they’ll get soggy… And nobody wants such a beautiful thing to get soggy! Enjoy!

    • I don’t see a problem using the packaged egg whites. I’ve never used them for baking, but egg whites are egg whites, right? :-D
I’d love to hear how they turn out! I’m sure your boys will love them, have a great weekend!

  3. I make meringue cookies for my husband and I. We are on a low-cal diet and meringues are perfect. They pack a sweet punch for very few calories. But I’ve never tried using brown sugar; I’m so excited to try these!
